Newsletter - June 2025
Well, spring was amazing here in DC, but we’ve definitely turned a corner into summer’s shvitz bath. Suddenly, it feels very Miami everywhere.
While we simmer in the heat, we can at least dive into the latest development data and some good news from Giving USA. Also, we´re sharing some info from our friends at CauseVox and some useful tips on protesting. We gotta stay loud!
Hope you’ve got some fun plans for the 4th,

Giving USA: What The 2024 Report Tells Us
Yesterday was a big day in the fundraising world: Giving USA and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University released Giving USA 2025: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2024. The data showed overall charitable giving totaled $592.50 billion in 2024, which is an increase of 6.3% over 2023 (adjusted for inflation, that’s a 3.3% increase).
That is good news for nonprofits, many of which are under pressure to raise even more this year in light of pullbacks in federal funding. The data shows that even during times of fiscal and political uncertainty, as long as economic elements remain strong (i.e., strong financial markets and no recession), many Americans are still as philanthropic as ever.
If you want the high-level takeaways, I dug into the data and pulled out some elements that matter most to fundraisers in my latest blog post here. And if you want to understand how this info may impact your plans, reach out to us!

Protests — How to Be Safe, Be Effective
Right now, standing up together matters more than ever. Protests are such a powerful way to show we care, to push for change, and to support one another. Luis and I went out to our local No Kings protest last week 💪 and it felt great to yell a bit with those who share our angst and frustrations.
While showing up safely is key, below are a few other elements to keep in mind when you’re out making your voice heard:
-
Know your rights – Familiarize yourself with local laws about protests and what to do if stopped by police.
-
Plan ahead – Go with a friend, and tell someone where you’ll be and when you expect to return.
-
Bring essentials – Water, snacks, ID, a charged phone, cash, hand sanitizer, and a mask (for health and anonymity).
-
Wear practical clothing – Comfortable shoes, layered clothes, and avoid anything too identifiable.
-
Write key info on your body – Emergency contact numbers or legal support hotlines in case your phone is lost or taken.
-
Stay aware – Keep an eye on your surroundings and exits. If the mood shifts or things escalate, know how to leave safely.
-
Stay peaceful and calm – Avoid engaging with agitators and focus on the purpose of the protest.
